虽然她长得很“高”

但打起武术来更加像大人

SOLO TRAINING PAYS OFF FOR YIK YAN

AYER KEROH (9 June 2010) - Even though she had to train for most of the time without a coach, the persistent hard work paid off handsomely for Wong Yik Yang when she won the gold in the women’s nanquan this morning at the Dewan Pusat Sukan Utem.

The Negeri Sembilan lass scored 9.52points to finish ahead of Tai Cheau Xuen - also of Negeri Sembilan - with 9.45pts for the silver and See Min of Wilayah Persekutuan (9.26pts) for the bronze.

“I trained harder on the weekend while during the weekday, I trained around two hours a day,” said Yik Yan.

“For most of the time, I had to train on my own without a proper coach while at other times, I trained with friends.” Yik Yan is currently studying at Institute Pendidikan Guru with the campus at Tuanku Bainun in Bukit Mertajam.

She is majoring in the Chinese language. Other than the gold and silver for Negeri Sembilan, Lau Hui Wei also picked up a bronze for the state in the men’s nanquan.
